At an event addressing antisemitism on Thursday, former President Donald Trump suggested that “the Jewish people” would bear some responsibility if he loses the election in November. This comment intensified his ongoing criticism of Jewish voters, as he alleged that Democrats hold a “curse” over them.
“I’m not going to call this a prediction, but in my opinion, if I’m polling at 40%, the Jewish people would have a lot to do with that loss,” Trump stated to Republican supporters in Washington. He added, “If I’m at 40, think of it; that means 60% are voting for Kamala (Harris), who is particularly a bad Democrat. The Democrats are very bad for Israel.”
Trump did not provide any specific polling data to support his claims.
The former president has repeatedly questioned why Jewish Americans would consider supporting his opponent, saying that Jewish Democratic voters “should have their head examined.”
During the first of two speeches to Jewish groups on Thursday, Trump addressed an audience that included prominent GOP donor Miriam Adelson, who introduced him. He declared the upcoming US election “the most important” in Israel’s history, warning that the Jewish state could be “eradicated” and “wiped off the face of the earth” if Harris were to win. Trump expressed frustration over what he characterized as ingratitude from Jewish voters, who he believes should be supporting him more due to his record on Israel.
